Interestingly, it appears that if I wanted to, I could also ride it as a moped. In the example, 36V makes it go 23-MPH.  With 48V, it would go about 28-MPH, and have about one and a half horsepower.  As a moped, note that it does not require the bike to have pedals.  As a motorized bicycle, it IS required to have fully operable pedals. With pedal-assist the electric motor is regulated by pedalling. The pedal-assist augments the efforts of the rider when they are pedalling. These e-bikes – called pedelecs – have a sensor to detect the pedalling speed, the pedalling force, or both. Brake activation is sensed to disable the motor as well. Although there are plenty of other e-bikes that impressed us, we wanted to choose three that stand out for a few reasons. But before we continue, an honorable mention goes to the Copenhagen Wheel. If you’re not sure where to start, the Copenhagen Wheel can fit on most bikes and can even be ordered fully installed on a few bikes. More to come on that. In most jurisdictions, the bikes are limited to 20 mph. Many can be ridden up to 50 miles before running out of electricity and can be recharged in two to four hours. In price, they run from several hundred dollars to many thousands. The two most common types of hub motors used in electric bicycles are brushed and brushless. There are many possible types of electric motorized bicycles with several technologies available, varying in cost and complexity; direct-drive and geared motor units are both used. An electric power-assist system may be added to almost any pedal cycle using chain drive, belt drive, hub motors or friction drive. BLDC hub motors are a common modern design with the motor built into the wheel hub itself and the stator fixed solidly to the axle and the magnets attached to and rotating with the wheel. The bicycle wheel hub is the motor. The power levels of motors used are influenced by available legal categories and are often, but not always limited to under 750 watts. I use my pedelec mode all the time to save on battery charge. The throttle is good for starting off then I switch to pedelec assist level 3. Also my hand gets sore holding the throttle on all the time. I prefer full throttles to half throttles, but my bike only comes with half throttle. A problem with my pedelec mode is the motor stays on for 2 to 3 seconds after I stop pedaling. I would be better if it cut off soon as I stop pedaling. But he is not the first U.S. President to impose tariffs and quotas on foreign steel. We are regular riders and chose to ride e-bikes and felt it was the best decision we could have made. Because of the size of the group there were extra e-bikes available and three others in the group switched after day one. The e-bike made the uphills no more challenging than our rides back in New...

You ARE allowed to ride an e-bike in Texas faster than 20-MPH if you pedal up that speed.  So when you are going fast and see a cop, pedal as fast as you can.  We call it clown pedaling. Looks really clownish if you happen to be going 40-MPH. Don’t expect a cop to be fooled if your e-bike really goes 40-MPH…but sometimes cops can surprise you. Depending on local laws, many e-bikes (e.g., are legally classified as bicycles rather than mopeds or motorcycles, so they are not subject to the more stringent laws regarding their certification and operation, unlike the more powerful two-wheelers which are often classed as electric motorcycles. E-bikes can also be defined separately and treated as a specific vehicle type in many areas of legal jurisdiction. Electric bikes (or Pedelecs) have been on the cycling scene for a few years already, however these have evolved from a necessity, which was primarily used for riders with health or fitness issues, into the new breed of serious off road bikes. All of our bikes are the pedal assist (not the throttle type) so some effort is required, the amount is up to you. Whether you’re looking to commute without getting too sweaty, to hitting the downhills with the power of an inbuilt uplift, there is a bike to suit your needs. Why own an e-bike? I’ve had 3 throttle...
