Fat-tire bikes with powerful electric assist are a match made in heaven. Juiced Bikes says it’s pulled out all the stops to make its upcoming RipCurrent S “the ultimate fat tire commuter e-bike,” and for the price, it looks like the team has pulled off something pretty special.
I’m a fan of pedal assist with a torque sensor (on high). It definitely gives the “super man” feel and allows for a great commute to work! I also like eBikes that allow for throttle override of the pedal assist while in pedal assist mode. Sometimes that extra boost up a hill is really helpful without having to switch modes to get it.
And let’s not forget the economic advantages of owning an e-bike. The annual cost of running a new family car is, on average, about $9,000 per year. Running an electric bike costs around $400 per year. And while filling a gas tank costs around $30, recharging an electric bike battery costs only about 50 cents. A tank of gas may get you further, but not 60 times further!
The Electra Townie® Go! is an easy to use, pedal assist e-bike with surprising power that’ll make you want to go forever. Powered by the Bosch Performance System, no hill or distance can stand in your way. Pedal less. Do more.
My State (WV) Laws are similar. Anything with a motor is a Moped (requires registration and insurance and that kills a lot of incentive to use one). I got interested because I was looking at the Organic Transit ELF. Turns out human powered Trikes are non-classified vehicles here, that is they are not defined as a bike -as a bike can only have 2 tandem wheels- while a moped can have 3 but also has a motor which a human powered trike lacks. >shrug< For those who may be unfamiliar, Burning Man is an annual gathering in the Black Rock Desert of Black Rock City, Nevada. The event, which began in 1986, spans from the last Sunday in August to the first Monday in September. There are no corporate sponsorships, advertisements, or entertainment at the event. Individual participation is what's key to making the event special and memorable. Although the participants are given a... Upper Dublin Township in Pennsylvania is initiating a pilot project to gauge the advantages of using electric bicycles. The e-bike, as they are more commonly known, will be used for police work and for the Township’s Sitewatch program, which patrols and monitors parkland and playing fields. The people behind the program believe the electric bike could prove to be a useful tool, giving police officers and parks personnel a clean,... Electric bikes offer the chance for those with low lung capacity (asthma sufferers, for example), or a reduced fitness level to get out and enjoy the countryside. Even those who are moderately fit can appreciate some assistance when going up hills. Summarizing the three states we just looked at, the example e-bike is not a “bike” in any of the three states. It’s not a bike in Texas and California because it can motor to 23-MPH. In New Mexico, there simply is no such thing as an electric bicycle. Does a decades-long rise in suicide among white Americans signal an emerging crisis for U.S. capitalism and democracy? Car dealers didn't like it, and pushed to get the laws changed to make it harder to use them. They reclassified the under 50cc motor assisted gas bicycles as a moped, requiring all the usual trappings. I have a pedelec and love it. I have three bikes, and I want to pedal, but when I have a meeting at night that is 7 miles away, I take the e-bike. It is enough of a boost to keep me from wanting to take the car at the end of a long day. It’s fun. Also, the laws on e-bikes continue to change, but it looks like the pedelecs will be classified as bikes, whereas bikes with throttles or self-propelled speeds of more than 20 mph are starting to become classified as “motor” vehicles and requiring registration in some states. Ebikes that look like motorcycles (such as Vespa style scooters with pedals) WILL get you pulled over. If it looks like it needs registration and tags…a cop will assume you are riding it illegally without them: since it uses both the pedal cadence in combination with its own torque sensor; to throttle and control the actual power flowing from one electric bike batteries to be directly supplied to ones electric bike motor; the more one presses down on ones pedal the more electric motor assist one gets as a direct result; A custom designed electric trike with large plastic cargo bin at the back, three-speed internally geared hub can be shifted at standstill and is more durable than a traditional derailleur.
