The new 52 Volt battery platform has over 1,000 Watt-Hours and 70+ miles of real-world range. We incorporated the latest charger technology to extend the lifespan to over 1,500 charge cycles. The RipCurrent S arrives fully-loaded with hydraulic disc, cruise control, air suspension fork, rack, fenders, a 1,050 lumen front headlight and more.
Some assembly of your new electric bike may be required. Often, this merely involves attaching the front wheel, but assembly chores are sometimes more complex than that. Several manufacturers provide instructional videos to help owners with the task of e-bike assembly.

To go farther pedal without power downhill, on the flats and on gentle uphills or until the legs begin to complane. For me (age 73) cycling is still about exercise as well as fresh air and mountain views.
If somebody in another state from yours tells you the bike he wants to sell you is legal for you to ride, it’s not very likely he knows all the statutes that apply in every state. Get your own information from official state websites before you start shopping. That way, you will know what rules apply before you buy a bike that is not a “bike” in your state. Pay particular attention to your e-bikes local status as a “motor vehicle” “motorized vehicle” or “biclcyle”. It will make a great deal of difference which one you are when it comes to using multi use trails and paths.
This article first appeared in Electric Bike Report in June of 2013. Since then, we’ve made some changes to our motor selection – our Direct-Drive motors are now all High-Torque 6×9 wound, so they run slower (approximately 15mph at 36v or 20mph at 48v), and our Geared Motors have been replaced by a 500w version, (approximately 20mph at 36v or 28mph at 48v). The Direct-Drive is now our Heavy-Duty motor and the…
Like electric cars, electric bicycles are manufactured by mix of startup companies and established players, including Schwinn, Trek, and Giant. Industry executives cite several reasons why e-bicycle sales are poised to take off in the U.S. Most important is the fact that more Americans than ever already bike to work, and that cities and towns are building infrastructure to accommodate them. According to the League of American Bicyclists, bike commuting grew by 47 percent nationally between 2000 and 2011, and it grew by 80 percent in communities designated as “bicycle friendly” by the league. Cities including New York, Chicago, Washington, and Los Angeles are building dedicated bike lanes, like those found in northern Europe, to make commuting safer and easier.
With clear rules on how and where to ride an e-bike, everyone stands to benefit. Local bicycle shops and manufacturers will see increased business and their customers will no longer be confused; people who already ride e-bikes can more easily understand where to ride; and new bicyclists who may be discouraged from riding a traditional bicycle due to limited physical fitness, age, disability or convenience will have new transportation alternatives.

Some individuals have lost considerable amounts of weight by using an electric bike. This means people of lower fitness levels or who haven’t cycled in many years can start enjoying the many health benefits E-bikes have to offer.

Torque sensors and power controls were developed in the late 1990s. For example, Takada Yutky of Japan filed a patent in 1997 for such a device. In 1992 Vector Services Limited offered and sold an e-bike dubbed Zike. The bicycle included NiCd batteries that were built into a frame member and included an 850 g permanent-magnet motor. Despite the Zike, in 1992 hardly any commercial e-bikes were available.
