Think I care if I push laws boundries? Nope, I will suffer the consequences if they catch me having fun. The law can’t keep up with the times, we can build bikes faster than they can ‘debate’. As soon as I found E-biking, I drive car 1/4 so Gassing every week to a month of what I used too. And I realized cars are not fun to work on, when you have a two beauty to tinker with.

The GenZe app works through Bluetooth connection on the 200 series e-Bikes only. The app can be used to understand range and battery life, plan routes, track ride history, and measure exertion. In this chapter, it tells you how to operate the bicycle or in this case e-bicycle.  In most cases, there is little variation in this area from state to state.  All the usual stuff about having at least one hand on the handlebars, having a light at night, riding as far to the right as can be done safely, etc.  In nearly all states, it will clearly state that bikes obey traffic laws, such as speed limits, stop signs etc.  Just because you are allowed 20-MPH on the ebike you can’t ride though the 15-MPH school zone at 20-MPH.  You’d think this would be pretty obvious, but far too many bike riders think that no license required means no laws apply.  It’s not the case.  But it’s true that cops may ignore your breaking the law on a bicycle. Or…they may not.  Do you feel lucky?

 Looks pretty similar to the Texas definitions, but there is one key difference.  There is no definition for electric bike. There seems to be no such thing as an electric bike in New Mexico. The closest match is “moped” So it looks like in the State of New Mexico the example e-bike is a moped.  Some good news, you can go 30 mph. And you don’t need to register and insure a moped.

I’ve had 3 throttle bikes and have been riding a pedelec for 2 weeks now, and so far, I liked the throttle. I’m basically a cyclist who likes to keep the pace up going up hills, so I used to ride unassisted a lot of the time, but that’s not really possible with the pedelec. It would be better if it had a 0 setting so you could still use the throttle override, but the only option is to switch the whole thing off. And I agree with Dan, it’s just another thing to go wrong, cost money and add weight. I’ll bet in my case it detracts from the range. Imagine if they told you that you couldn’t switch off cruise control in your car!

With clear rules on how and where to ride an e-bike, everyone stands to benefit. Local bicycle shops and manufacturers will see increased business and their customers will no longer be confused; people who already ride e-bikes can more easily understand where to ride; and new bicyclists who may be discouraged from riding a traditional bicycle due to limited physical fitness, age, disability or convenience will have new transportation alternatives.

I have a pedelec and love it. I have three bikes, and I want to pedal, but when I have a meeting at night that is 7 miles away, I take the e-bike. It is enough of a boost to keep me from wanting to take the car at the end of a long day. It’s fun. Also, the laws on e-bikes continue to change, but it looks like the pedelecs will be classified as bikes, whereas bikes with throttles or self-propelled speeds of more than 20 mph are starting to become classified as “motor” vehicles and requiring registration in some states.

The first three are, of course, electric cars. They benefit from a lot of media attention and generous government subsidies, including a $7,500 tax credit for buyers in the United States. The latter are electric bicycles, and they attract neither.

The Jetson Adventure was a very pleasant surprise because we really didn’t know what to expect. Instead, we found a light and fun mountain bike and had no problem flinging into corners with ease. The one caveat is that its battery is not removable, at least, not easily. It can be removed from the front light but would take some time to do so. It sports 21 gears, and although we would like to go faster, it is meant to climb hills. Overall, it’s a fun bike to ride, and one that is lightweight at a fair price.

The frame of an electric bike also has to be slightly different. The main part of the frame (the bit that supports your weight) is usually made from lightweight aluminum alloy: the lighter the frame, the lighter the weight of the bike overall, and the further it can travel before you need to recharge the batteries. The spokes on the wheel also have to be stronger than the thin spokes on a traditional bicycle. That’s because the electric motor in the hub spins the wheel with a lot of turning force (known as torque) and, if the spokes were ordinary lightweight ones, they could bend or buckle.
