Riding Position: You also may wish to check out an e-bike’s riding position before investing in it. For short trips, the riding position might not make much difference, but for long journeys, the upright “Dutch” style with pulled-back handlebars is very comfortable – particularly for tall riders. The same goes for mountain bike styles, though these bikes are not often designed to actually go off-road.
As e-bikes became more popular, dedicated models were developed. Most of them still look very much like ordinary bicycles, but now they’re built with the motor and battery as an integral part. Today’s electric bicycles are better balanced and more efficient than ever before.
A value-priced urban electric bike that includes fenders, integrated LED lights, a rear rack, and hydraulic disc brakes, it’s available in three frame sizes but only high-step. This is a high-speed Class 3 ebike that can reach ~28 mph assisted and because……
Laws governing who can ride electric bikes, and where, vary from state to state. In some places, you can ride cycle paths; in others, you cannot. You may need a license – and even insurance – and there may be age limits.
This Saturday, Oct. 7, Tim Sway will showcase his “UpTriCycle” at the Greater Hartford Mini Maker Faire. Sway calls the UpTricycle an “off grid, electric, solar charging mobile maker space and carrier for upcycling makers.” He uses minimal tools and footprints in his creation for unlimited potential. On his YouTube page, Sway made a comparison video between a gas-powered trike and an electric trike. He purchased a gas-powered trike first,…
“You honestly feel like you’re floating,” said Marino, who found pedaling easy for his recovering leg. “I felt like I was riding horses again. Instead of trails, I was road biking in and out of traffic.”
Maybe you merely have to pedal without the motor to be legal on that trail. Or maybe you just have to ride slow. Maybe if you look just like a gasoline scooter, nice little old ladies start throwing rocks at you. It can be quite peculiar at the local level. One day, I nearly got in a fist fight with 30 jogging body-builders that decided my e-bike was not allowed on the trail. They thought ALL bikes were not allowed. Some days you just have to bend to the local peculiarity of that day. That day, I got off the path, and got back on again once I was out of their sight.
Lithium battery: 36V. Motor: 250W high speed brushless gear motors. Type: Mountain Bicycle. Front Fork: High-strength carbon steel comfort shock absorption. Tire: High quality lithium tire. Charger: Smart Lithium battery charger.
It’s what’s inside your motor that sets it apart from the rest. Quality parts and assembly We’ve written here before about how to choose a motor, the different types of motors, the performance differences between motors, etc. But today I want to show you what makes our motors different from other hub motors. Today, harry is replacing the axle on a customer’s direct-drive motor. The bike was crashed and the…
If you have dynamo-powered bicycle lights, you already own an electric-powered bicycle! Consider: as you pump your legs up and down on the pedals, you make the wheels rotate. A small dynamo (generator) mounted on the rear wheel produces a tiny current of electricity keeps your back safety lamp lit in the dark. Now suppose you could run this process backward. What if you removed the lamp and replaced it with a large battery. The battery would kick out a steady electric current, driving the dynamo in reverse so that it spun around like an electric motor. As the dynamo/motor turned, it would rotate the tire and make the bike go along without any help from your pedaling. Hey presto: an electric bike! It may sound a bit far-fetched, but this is more or less exactly how electric bikes work.
Combining speed and style through an innovative pedal-assist motor, advanced electronics, and a sleek design, our Turbo e-bikes represents the full capabilities of the e-bike revolution. They’re capable of achieving top speeds of 45 Km/h while you pedal, so they’ll deliver near superhuman power to any rider.
This is the display of the Easy Motion Neo Jumper electric mountain bike. The pedal assist settings can be adjusted up or down using the + or – buttons on the left side of the display. In this picture the pedal assist is set to the highest level; see the right side of the display.
The e-JOE Epik’s thumb throttle is not the most intuitive (it’s a bit like some powered lawn mowers), but you soon get used to it. The handlebar-mounted display could be easier to understand. These minor negatives aside, owners love the e-JOE Epik’s practicality and reliability. It delivers precisely what you expect from a folding electric bicycle.
It can get really confusing, and very seldom does any one place you look have all the information you need. You need to get your information from official state websites or publications. Looking at the wiki for California, it contains a very obvious mistake. Lots of misinformation on sites that try to summarize the laws for you.
There’s no question that electric bikes are far better for the environment than petrol-powered car engines. But that doesn’t mean they’re completely perfect. Making and disposing of batteries can be very polluting. Not only that, but an electric bicycle is still using energy that has to come from somewhere. You may think you’re using clean green power, but the electricity you use for getting about might have come from a filthy old, coal-fired power plant or one driven by nuclear energy. (If you’re lucky, of course, it might have come from solar panels or a wind turbine!) Electric bikes are nowhere near as environmentally friendly as ordinary push bikes, but nothing is ever perfect—and, as people often say, “the perfect is the enemy of the good.” Electric bikes are certainly a step in the right direction. If everyone used them to get about instead of cars, global warming might be less of a problem, and the world would be a far cleaner and healthier place!

The Gocycle GS was hotly anticipated as a more affordable version of the G3. The GS is not a tuned down version of the G3. It has mostly the same specs as the G3. We like what Gocycle did with this e-bike. It does away with some of the futuristic features of the G3. We still feel the Gocycle is the bike of the future. It folds, it’s magnesium for light weight, and it was the first bike that didn’t make us dread an empty battery. We simply pedaled back home without struggling. We rode the GS and G3 downtown to meetings well dressed without breaking a sweat.
[…] The unique innovation in the E-bikes lies in the pedal-assist that propels you along as you bring your foot down, a boost which can be reduced or increased to affect your effort when cycling. The e-bike so changes from a motorised vehicle to a means of exercise at the actual push of a button. Moreover, the accelerator on the handlebars allows you to use the bike like any motorised two-wheeler, based on your own convenience. […]

Free to Roam the Road: According to California state law, any pedal-driven e-bike with a max speed of 20 mph can use any of the state’s bike lanes, bike paths, bike trails or off-street bikeways. (E-bikes are still pretty new, so in many areas, the CA law is the accepted standard in absence of local regulations.)
There was an explosion of electric bicycles (e-bikes) in 2017, and we can safely bet 2018 will give us even more, to choose from. The real question is, will anyone break the quality entry-level barrier? We think we found one.

The top three e-bikes are the Gocycle GS, The Jetson Adventure, and the Propella E-Bike. All three e-bikes are very different. The Gocycle is futuristic and looks like someone in SoHo, NYC or in Silverlake, Los Angeles would ride it to a trendy shop. It does it in style, won’t force you to relearn how to ride a bike, and certainly has a unique look going for it.
Riding my Stromer on Minneapolis bike trails for the past month has been a blast. And, nobody has a clue what I’m riding. Of course, I’m careful to call “on your left” with every high speed pass. But, I’m dreading the possibility of “no motor-assist bicycles” signs going up once people do figure out what’s going on.
Alec wants your wheels to be strong and true when they leave our doors, and a well-built wheel will stay that way for years. Alec would rather be outdoors, but he comes in to E-BikeKit each day to make sure that you’ve got what you need to make your own outdoor adventures happen. A day when Alec can keep you rolling down the road and enjoying your bike is a…

I have a pedelec and love it. I have three bikes, and I want to pedal, but when I have a meeting at night that is 7 miles away, I take the e-bike. It is enough of a boost to keep me from wanting to take the car at the end of a long day. It’s fun. Also, the laws on e-bikes continue to change, but it looks like the pedelecs will be classified as bikes, whereas bikes with throttles or self-propelled speeds of more than 20 mph are starting to become classified as “motor” vehicles and requiring registration in some states.
One last thing to consider is your very local laws. Counties, Parishes, Towns, Cities and even park managers, can also regulate bikes, e-bikes, mopeds, etc at the local level. You may have local laws about mopeds or motor vehicles on the, hiking, bike or multi-use trails for example. Pay particular attention to the exact wording of the signs if any. “No Motor Vehicles”, does not ban an e-bike IF, your state does not define an e-bike as a motor vehicle. If a sign says “No Motorized Vehicles”, then your e-bike is a lot more likely to fit that definition and not be allowed on the trail. Local differences exist. Your multi-use beach path at home may be OK, but cross a city border, and some entirely different rules may be in effect for the paths.
In this section, we see the requirements for drivers licences for various vehicles. The the one to take note of here is that if you operate as a “moped” (30-MPH) then you need not only a drivers license, but one with a motorcycle endorsement. But as a motorized bicycle, (20-MPH) you do not need any drivers license. You only need to be 16 years old for the “bike”.
The GenZe Companion app looks for active faults your 200 series e-Bike has submitted. If something is wrong, it will display the fault, and provide you with an appropriate action to resolve the issue.
Electric bikes (e-bikes) are very similar to regular bikes, only more fun! An e-bike has a motor and a battery that provides assistance to help the rider go further and faster. While still getting an effective work-out, you can ride up tough hills easily, enjoy long distances and have a faster commute. E-bikes are also environmentally friendly! With an e-bike, you choose your speed and assist, putting you in control of your entire ride.
I am a fan of as little components as possible. The less parts and pieces, the less chance of failure. That’s just my opinion. I do not offer pedal sensor components on my DIY kits but I am open to learning what people think / want.
