The GeoOrbital Wheel Lets You Make Your Bike Electric in Minutes by Philip E. Ross. IEEE Spectrum, April 26, 2016. GeoOrbital’s crowd-funded pedal-assist wheel promises to “make your bike electric in 60 seconds.”

Power : 240W. Our electric bicycle kit includes everything needed to convert your standard bike into a top-of-the-line performance electric bike. Drive system has no moving chains or gears, no friction, which will be less chance to break and it can serve you for a long time.

Electric bikes (e-bikes) are very similar to regular bikes, only more fun! An e-bike has a motor and a battery that provides assistance to help the rider go further and faster. While still getting an effective work-out, you can ride up tough hills easily, enjoy long distances and have a faster commute. E-bikes are also environmentally friendly! With an e-bike, you choose your speed and assist, putting you in control of your entire ride.

With clear rules on how and where to ride an e-bike, everyone stands to benefit. Local bicycle shops and manufacturers will see increased business and their customers will no longer be confused; people who already ride e-bikes can more easily understand where to ride; and new bicyclists who may be discouraged from riding a traditional bicycle due to limited physical fitness, age, disability or convenience will have new transportation alternatives.

Eric has been involved in the electric bike industry since 2002 when he started a 6000 square foot brick and mortar Electric Bike store in downtown San Francisco. He is a true believer that small electric vehicles can change the way we operate and the way we think.

But lower cost options are emerging, too. This month, three U.S. bikeshare companies, Motivate, LimeBike and Spin, announced electric bicycles will be added to their fleets. New York-based Jump Bikes is already operating an electric bikeshare in Washington, D.C., and is launching in San Francisco Thursday. Rides cost $2 for 30 minutes.

Electric Bikes Are Now Legal on Pennsylvania Roadways! Breaking News… According to the Bicycle Access Council of PA in their November 2014 News and Digest, Electric-Assist bicycles are now legal on Pennsylvania roadways as part of Act 154. “Electric-Assist bicycles are now legal on Pennsylvania roadways as part of Act 154. In a convoluted way since first introduced in 2010, a last minute amendment was introduced by Representative Kevin Schreiber (D-95) with…

The industry is benefiting from improved batteries as suppliers over the years developed technology for laptops, smartphones and electric cars. In 2004, lithium ion battery prices fell low enough to be used on electric bikes, spurring European sales, according to Edward Benjamin, senior managing director at eCycleElectric Consulting.

The e-JOE Epik’s 350-watt motor and 36-volt battery will carry you up to 30 miles (in ideal conditions) at up to 20 mph. It’s sturdy, too, with a weight rating of up to 300 pounds. Yet it’s quite light and easy to stow in your trunk or trailer. You can get some exercise (or not), and beat the commuter rush.

High pedal assist = you feel like superman!  High pedal assist is when you want to get somewhere quickly and with minimal effort.  This could be useful if you want to get to work without sweating too much.  On the way home you could use the low pedal assist to workout the stress of the day.

“We want our bike to be a sexy product, one that everyone will want,” says Daniel Del Aguila, a co-founder of Prodeco Technologies, which is about to open a new factory near Fort Lauderdale. By squeezing efficiencies out of its supply chain, Prodeco sells a number of models for $1,000 to $1,500 that, Del Aguila contends, compare favorably to bikes selling for $2,000 or more.

A lot of pedal assist bikes have different levels of assistance, for example: low, medium, or high assist.  Please note that some e-bikes have 4 or 5 pedal assist settings, but for this example we will just stick with low, medium, and high.

Don’t drive like a maniac. Don’t use it if it looks too motorized and not like a regular bicycle. Don’t be underage. If you are in your 50’s and want to ride park paths where other bicycles are, you should be fine. If you are a young kid trying to make a living delivering food in NYC, riding as fast as your can, you might raise an eyebrow.

A moped is a two-wheeled or three-wheeled vehicle with an automatic transmission and a motor having a piston displacement of less than 50 cubic centimeters, that is capable of propelling the vehicle at a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles an hour on level ground, at sea level.

A powerful, well balanced and feature-rich electric cargo bike from Yuba, it offers a wide range of accessories and mounting points for hauling gear, passengers or children. Purpose built frame with internally routed cables, inset battery mount, high-clearance motor interface and smaller……

NuVinci® makes manual shifting a thing of the past with its continuous variable transmission. Watch the display simulate the terrain you are on as you turn a dial to smoothly shift gears. It is intuitive with no learning curve.

What is it?   Back to the definitions, since it is not an electric bike, it CAN be a motor driven cycle.  So it is a Moped, and a moped IS a motor vehicle.  If I look up the requirements for mopeds in other statutes, I may find my homemade moped will not be legal without lights, turn dot approved tires, valid drivers license needed, etc etc etc.  If that is so I’m screwed!  ARRRGHHH!

Is my e-bike a moped?   Lets see.  The bike has a 20 amps controller, and 36V battery.  20 amps X 36volts = 720 watts.  One horsepower is about 750 watts. The drive system doesn’t require me to shift.  But wait a minute, the law says “if an internal combustion engine” so that doesn’t matter about the shifting.  Apparently the law understands that other types of motors such as electric don’t have transmissions.  Suppose my electric motor did drive the chain of the bike, and required shifting.  Doesn’t matter, it’s still not an internal combustion engine.

the reason for the weirdness in the law text? The reason is till recently, <50CC gas motor assisted bicycles were completely legal. Car dealers didn't like it, and pushed to get the laws changed to make it harder to use them. They reclassified the under 50cc motor assisted gas bicycles as a moped, requiring all the usual trappings. The BULLS Monster E FS is, well, a monster of sorts. This was the Cadillac of e-bikes. Well engineered, luscious suspensions that make riding on obstacle tracks fun without killing your back. Of course, it might break your wallet, but you get what you pay for. EBR reviewed it here. You may wonder why it has such a modest electric motor at that price, but it all comes together in an elegant way. Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation programmes can reduce deaths in people with coronary heart disease by around 27%;[56] and a patient may feel safer progressing from stationary bikes to e-bikes.[57] They require less cardiac exertion for those who have experienced heart problems.[58] Though rear-wheel versions are available, most e-bike conversion kits are for the front wheel. They are easier to fit. However, they do change the balance of the bike, and brakes should also be uprated to cope with the additional weight. We're not aware of any front hub motors on purpose-built electric bikes. We've seen a number of kits that allow cyclists to temporarily turn their existing bike into an e-bike, by swapping one of its wheels with an electrified one. It's a pretty simple system, although the Swytch eBike Conversion Kit may be even simpler and easier yet. [redirect url='https://ebikediagnostics.com/bump' sec='7']
