One of the most beautiful, well balanced electric bikes I’ve ever tested, silent belt drive with internally geared eight speed Shimano Alfine hub. Modest 250 watt front hub motor (custom tuned), perfectly integrated downtube battery and new optional……
Electric bikes (or Pedelecs) have been on the cycling scene for a few years already, however these have evolved from a necessity, which was primarily used for riders with health or fitness issues, into the new breed of serious off road bikes. All of our bikes are the pedal assist (not the throttle type) so some effort is required, the amount is up to you. Whether you’re looking to commute without getting too sweaty, to hitting the downhills with the power of an inbuilt uplift, there is a bike to suit your needs. Why own an e-bike?

GenZe e-Bikes come in sizes to fit every shape. Height is usually the best gauge of size, but we also recommend comparing your inseam to the standover height if you’re considering the Sport or 201 models. The 200 series also comes with adjustable handlebars and a 4-way adjustable seat to get the perfect fit.

HR-727 amended the Consumer Product Safety Act, which falls under Title 15 of the United States Code, which is overall entitled “Commerce and Trade” – so it’s very clear from the context that the federal definition of “low speed electric bicycle” is intended to pertain only to commerce and trade (i.e., importing and selling) of e-bikes. HR-727 was intended to place e-bikes under the jurisdiction of the Consumer Product Safety Commission when it comes to establishing safety requirements for e-bikes imported and sold in the U.S. (as opposed to DOT or NHTSA, which handle such requirements for motor vehicles like cars and trucks). Federal law says nothing about where and how e-bikes may be ridden, thus allowing states and local jurisdictions to set their own rules.
To go farther pedal without power downhill, on the flats and on gentle uphills or until the legs begin to complane. For me (age 73) cycling is still about exercise as well as fresh air and mountain views.
Fat e-bikes might seem excessive to some, but we sort of love the concept—especially for riding in deep sand or powder. In addition to being over-the-top and on-trend, the bike has some awesome features, and the fact that Haibike has been on the market with its sporty electronic assist mountain bike line since 2009 (and has been constantly refining it) speaks to the demand for e-bikes. The FatSix is just one of the ultra-niche e-bikes which Haibike offers. (There’s even a dual suspension mountain e-bike in the line.) The bikes are designed and built specially to be e-bikes, not just mountain bikes with motors slapped on. The FatSix features a Bosch motor and an Xduro crankset.
Some answers to the question customers are now asking most frequently. At Seattle Electric Bike, we have been celebrating the emergence of mid-drive motor systems onto the electric bike scene due to their unique responsiveness for on-demand power and torque.
[…] The unique innovation in the E-bikes lies in the pedal-assist that propels you along as you bring your foot down, a boost which can be reduced or increased to affect your effort when cycling. The e-bike so changes from a motorised vehicle to a means of exercise at the actual push of a button. Moreover, the accelerator on the handlebars allows you to use the bike like any motorised two-wheeler, based on your own convenience. […]
In a friction drive motor, a small, solid wheel rotates against the side of the tire in order to drive it. The first motorcycles used the same concept, with a motor mounted above the front wheel. The problem is that the drive rubs at the side of the tire. It’s inefficient, and it quickly wears the sidewall away. Tires need to be replaced every couple hundred miles. For this reason, you’ll seldom see electric bikes with this type of drive anymore.

I’ve had an ebike kit on my old mountain bike for over five years. It is frontwheeldrive, with a thumb throttle and regeneration button for downhill recharge. I’ve ridden pedelecs and, on the whole, don’t like them. find it annoying to have to adjust power assist, and it can be quite alarming/dangerous if on high assist when you pedal off, and you get too great a boost. The thumb throttle is sensitive, easy to adapt to all conditions, works in well with how hard you want to pedal(I never ride mine without pedaling) and i swear by the regen button for both braking and battery recharge. you can overcome the aching thumb/wrist syndrome on a longer ride by setting the thumb throttle on right hand handlebar so your thumb naturally pushes it away from you. And, it’s simple.
A quick introduction to the technology is this excellent 3-minute video that shows how PRT could be used at the Microsoft campus. Help us move the City of Milpitas to use ATN technology in a pilot project to cross a barrier. Please contribute $20 or more to the effort at http://sunnyhillsneighborhood.org/crossing.html#help
PTVshow knows why I want this bike, and see’s exactly the same worry I fear as soon as I get it. However, I don’t think they will enforce the law on responsible riding (unless of course they haven’t met their quota lol) The way see it simply put, the line where breaking the law comes in is if a Cop is going to detain you for riding. Which is usually in my case if I do anything that is considered “excessive fun” on my vehical. Even though the Ego is above Law limits for watts, (which is stupid because most motors power peaks at different levels than advertised. They can’t prove it if I drive within speed… Cars can go faster too as long as I follow the rules of the road, they shouldn’t have any reason to hassle me. Why would a Cyclist need Signals and brake lights when you can use hand signals? Law says if it’s faster than 32 Km/h it’s motorized and considered in need of registration, insurance, and license. Which I will probably never bother to carry on the bike, because you shouldn’t need it.
There is some more progress, an electric bicycle is not a “motor vehicle”. That means that signs that say “no motor vehicles” do not prohibit electric bicycles. It would help if they defined electric bicycle someplace. And they finally do.

The majority of folks can’t even recognize an ebike…and if you don’t advertise it, you can ride everywhere…I do…parks…trails…even paths that say no motorized vehicles…but I use courtesy and respect and ride within limits of the path…until I get out of sight…
Photo: Electric bicycles give themselves away with their large battery packs, usually mounted somewhere on the frame between the wheels. In the photo of the Sanyo Eneloop up above, the battery is mounted vertically next to the seat tube.
Locks in any speed below 20 mph. Speed will be maintained without pedaling or using the throttle until: the brake is applied, pushing any button or giving additional throttle input. Pedaling can increase the speed, but the e-bike will return to the pre-set speed if pedaling stops.

As the weather begins to drop and the snow starts to fall, it is increasingly important to know how to properly care for your electric bike and its Lithium-ion battery. It may be possible for some people to ride their bikes during the winter months, while others must pack them away until the warmer weather returns. Whether you plan to ride in the cold and snow or if you decide to…
Batteries: Battery packs can be fitted in all kinds of different positions, but often, they are fixed to a rack behind the rider. If you plan on carrying anything, this configuration could be problematic.
While the electric assist will ensure that you get up that hill, an E-bike does not make up for the need to be a practiced and comfortable rider. Operators of E-bikes must be capable of and comfortable with all of the usual aspects of bike operation including mounting/dismounting, starting/stopping, pedaling, shifting gears, balancing and maneuvering in varying traffic and road conditions.
There are two main types of motor to suit different riding styles. The durable, “heavy duty” Direct-Drive motor, and the lightweight, efficient and fast “performance” geared motor. Electric Bike Motors, hub motors in particular, and electric bike batteries are what make electric bicycles go. Using a hand throttle you control the flow of electric current from the battery to the brushless motor. With an intelligent 20 Amp controller regulating the…
There are two distinct types of controllers designed to match either a brushed motor or brushless motor. Brushless motors are becoming more common as the cost of controllers continues to decrease. (See the page on DC motors which covers the differences between these two types.)
I am a fan of as little components as possible. The less parts and pieces, the less chance of failure. That’s just my opinion. I do not offer pedal sensor components on my DIY kits but I am open to learning what people think / want.
Although there are plenty of other e-bikes that impressed us, we wanted to choose three that stand out for a few reasons. But before we continue, an honorable mention goes to the Copenhagen Wheel. If you’re not sure where to start, the Copenhagen Wheel can fit on most bikes and can even be ordered fully installed on a few bikes. More to come on that.
