E-bike usage worldwide has experienced rapid growth since 1998. In 2016 there were 210 million electric bikes worldwide used daily. It is estimated that there were roughly 120 million e-bikes in China in early 2010, and sales are expanding rapidly in India, the United States of America, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. A total of 700,000 e-bikes were sold in Europe in 2010, up from 200,000 in 2007 and 500,000 units in 2009.
Battery: 36V 8AH lithium battery. Power: 250W. The frame folds via a 2 part locking mechanism which ensures the catch safely remains locked when the bike is in use and can be operated with one hand for a smooth folding action.

The Easy Motion Big Bud Pro left a fun impression on us. What’s not to like about those chubby fat tires with two electric motors, one in the back and front? Sporting a 350W electric motor in the back and 250W on the front wheel, this was one fun bike to ride. Why two electric motors on an e-bike? Frankly said, it’s not that much different for everyday riding, but the e-bike came alive on gravel and sandy paths. We can only imagine what a little snow and ice would do to raise our adrenaline past the point of silliness. You can read EBR’s excellent review of it here.
Even what you choose to wear can effect if cops give you a second look or not. Riding with no helmet, or riding with a full faced helmet (even though safer) can draw unwanted police attention to you.
Using the throttle only, GenZe e-bikes will go about 20 miles per charge. With pedal assist, the range extends to 20-40 miles per charge. Range is affected by the weight of the rider, the type of terrain, and frequent stops and starts. Did you know that the average commute is less than 8 miles a day?

This step-through frame will make your commuting life or weekend errands infinitely easier, with speeds of up to 20 miles per hour and an electric assist motor that will power you for up to 50 miles. The Evo Eco Lite rides smoothly and handles like a normal bike—and looks like one too, thanks to careful battery and motor placement. Front and rear fenders plus a rear rack make it easy to ride to work, the library, or the grocery store. It has a simple app to go with it, but you can upgrade to the Premium app, or add a GPS Tracker, a winter battery cover (for snowier climates), or a lighting cable as extras.

“Traditionally, people don’t use bikes for transportation,” says Larry Pizzi, the president of Currie Technologies, a leading e-bicyle manufacturer based in Simi Valley, California. “We’re trying to change a paradigm.” There are reasons to believe that the e-bicycle industry may be able to do just that.
Electric bikes (or Pedelecs) have been on the cycling scene for a few years already, however these have evolved from a necessity, which was primarily used for riders with health or fitness issues, into the new breed of serious off road bikes. All of our bikes are the pedal assist (not the throttle type) so some effort is required, the amount is up to you. Whether you’re looking to commute without getting too sweaty, to hitting the downhills with the power of an inbuilt uplift, there is a bike to suit your needs. Why own an e-bike?

Nicolas Zart Nicolas was born and raised in the world of classic cars of the 1920s. It wasn’t until he drove an AC Propulsion eBox and finally a Tesla Roadster that the light went on. Eager to spread the news of that full torque, he started writing in 2007 for various CleanTech outlets. Since then, his passion led to cover renewable energy, test drives, podcasts, shoot pictures, and film for various international outlets both in print and online. Nicolas offers an in-depth look at the e-mobility world through interviews and the many contacts he has forged in those industries. Today he focuses most of his writing effort on CleanTechnica, a global online outlet that covers the world of electric vehicles and renewable energy. His favorite tagline is: “There are more solutions than obstacles.”

In the 1890s, electric bicycles were documented within various U.S. patents. For example, on 31 December 1895, Ogden Bolton Jr. was granted U.S. Patent 552,271 for a battery-powered bicycle with “6-pole brush-and-commutator direct current (DC) hub motor mounted in the rear wheel.” There were no gears and the motor could draw up to 100 amperes (A) from a 10-volt battery.
Specialist off-road electric bikes aren’t legal for road use, so we’re not spending a lot of time on them in this review. However, you may be interested in learning a few facts about these monstrosities. They’re lightweight yet tough with fat, all-terrain tires, advanced brakes, and speeds in excess of 50 mph.
I have now done 2700 miles of leisure cycling with a range of up to 40 Miles. Usually I leave the assist control in ECO mode (50% extra torque)for most of the ride but as I live on top of a hill I usually finish the ride in MED (100% extra torque) or HI (150% extra torque). Think of a this type of pedelec as having a torque motor which applies an extra torque that is a multiplier of the torque you are applying to the chain. Mine is coupled to a Shamano Nexus 7 seven speed hub, and is great for always being in the right gear by being able to change gear when stationary.
I use my pedelec mode all the time to save on battery charge. The throttle is good for starting off then I switch to pedelec assist level 3. Also my hand gets sore holding the throttle on all the time. I prefer full throttles to half throttles, but my bike only comes with half throttle. A problem with my pedelec mode is the motor stays on for 2 to 3 seconds after I stop pedaling. I would be better if it cut off soon as I stop pedaling.
Fat e-bikes might seem excessive to some, but we sort of love the concept—especially for riding in deep sand or powder. In addition to being over-the-top and on-trend, the bike has some awesome features, and the fact that Haibike has been on the market with its sporty electronic assist mountain bike line since 2009 (and has been constantly refining it) speaks to the demand for e-bikes. The FatSix is just one of the ultra-niche e-bikes which Haibike offers. (There’s even a dual suspension mountain e-bike in the line.) The bikes are designed and built specially to be e-bikes, not just mountain bikes with motors slapped on. The FatSix features a Bosch motor and an Xduro crankset.

Interestingly, it appears that if I wanted to, I could also ride it as a moped. In the example, 36V makes it go 23-MPH. With 48V, it would go about 28-MPH, and have about one and a half horsepower. As a moped, note that it does not require the bike to have pedals. As a motorized bicycle, it IS required to have fully operable pedals.
A recent report from the consulting firm eCycleElectric said that approximately 250,000 e-bikes were sold in America last year, representing 70% growth over 2015. Other estimates suggest the business could double again this year.

The CX1 builds on that success, adding a new more powerful brushless motor, an upgraded battery, a 21-speed gear system, and improved reliability. The Power Plus can be used simply as a traditional ‘pedal’ bike without any problems, however it also features other mode.
Another type of electric assist motor, often referred to as the mid-drive system, is increasing in popularity. With this system, the electric motor is not built into the wheel but is usually mounted near (often under) the bottom bracket shell. In more typical configurations, a cog or wheel on the motor drives a belt or chain that engages with a pulley or sprocket fixed to one of the arms of the bicycle’s crankset. Thus the propulsion is provided at the pedals rather than at the wheel, being eventually applied to the wheel via the bicycle’s standard drive train. An electric mid-drive combined with a hub gear at the back hub may require care due to the lack of a clutch mechanism to soften the shock to the gears at the moment of re-engagement. A stepless / coninuous ratio gear hub or a fully automatic gear hub may reduce the chocks due to the viscosity of oils used for liquid coupling instead of the mechanical couplings of the conventional gear hubs.
The GenZe Companion app looks for active faults your 200 series e-Bike has submitted. If something is wrong, it will display the fault, and provide you with an appropriate action to resolve the issue.
The time or distance an electric bike battery will run between chargings is impossible to judge with much accuracy. There are too many variables: terrain, speed, rider weight, bike load (shopping, kids, luggage), and more. However, we can make a few generalizations about an e-bike’s recharge time and overall working life. These generalizations should be used for comparison purposes only.
By 2001 the terms e-bike, power bike, “pedelec”, pedal-assisted, and power-assisted bicycle were commonly used to refer to e-bikes. The terms “electric motorbike” or “e-motorbike” refer to more powerful models that attain up to 80 km/h (50 mph).
