While riding is our passion, we’ve always believed our brand is as much about the people who ride our bikes as it is the bikes themselves. So to help you live the Electra life to the fullest, we extended our signature style into fashion and accessories.

So your motor is limited to a peak of 1490 watts. This is where you have to be careful as a number of e-bike motors are sold not at peak rating but at their sustainable rate. That 1000w rated motor might actually be capable of 2000w and be a violation.
I’m a fan of pedal assist with a torque sensor (on high). It definitely gives the “super man” feel and allows for a great commute to work! I also like eBikes that allow for throttle override of the pedal assist while in pedal assist mode. Sometimes that extra boost up a hill is really helpful without having to switch modes to get it.
Jump up ^ European standard NF EN 15194 for Electrically power assisted cycles Archived 2012-12-24 at the Wayback Machine. section 184.108.40.206 Requirements: The maximum [assisted] speed [is] 25 km/h (…) During a production conformity check, the maximum speed may differ by ± 10% from the above-mentioned determined value.
This lightweight geared hub motor has a 5:1 gear reduction for increased torque. The freewheeling clutch allows the wheel to spin freely when the motor is not powered. The motor is set up with a high-end 9 Speed Shimano Cassette rather than the budget 7 speed freewheel systems. This insures more crisp gear shifts and even compatibility with 10 Speed setups
Pedelecs are much like conventional bicycles in use and function — the electric motor only provides assistance, most notably when the rider would otherwise struggle against a headwind or be going uphill. Pedelecs are therefore especially useful for people living in hilly areas where riding a bike would prove too strenuous for many to consider taking up cycling as a daily means of transport. They are also useful when it would be helpful for the riders who more generally need some assistance, e.g. for elderly people.
We are regular riders and chose to ride e-bikes and felt it was the best decision we could have made. Because of the size of the group there were extra e-bikes available and three others in the group switched after day one. The e-bike made the uphills no more challenging than our rides back in New England. The long switchback filled downhills were a total delight as the BionX system allows you to shift into negative power and like a car in first gear, holds you back with minimal braking. We got to sit back and enjoy the view!

Finally we are getting somewhere. I have a bicycle, check. It has an electric motor, check. I weighed it, and it was 80 pounds, check. When I rode it, it went 23-MPH. Whoops! “Cannot attain a speed of more than 20-MPH”
China is the world’s leading manufacturer of e-bikes, with 22.2 million units produced in 2009. One of the biggest manufacturers of E-bikes in the world is Geoby. Production is concentrated in five regions, Tianjin, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Shanghai. China exported 370,000 e-bikes in 2009.
Automated Transit Networks (ATN), and the small-vehicle subset of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), are emerging technologies that can help solve the related problems of congestion, dependence on foreign oil, and planetary climate disruption. ATN/PRT offers clean, quiet, responsive public transit with automated non-stop service available 24 hours a day. In addition to these service benefits, PRT costs far less to build and operate than other transit options ¯ and is safer than walking and cycling on nearby busy streets.
Persistence Market Research in September 2017 predicted a global market growth of 4.7% CAGR during the period 2017-2022. Asia-Pacific excluding Japan (APeJ) is a lucrative region and is expected to show high market share by the end of 2022.
This is the half grip twist throttle on the eFlow E3 Nitro electric bike. The throttle is engaged by twisting the throttle; similar to motorcycle or scooter. This is the most common type of e-bike throttle.
It’s what’s inside your motor that sets it apart from the rest. Quality parts and assembly We’ve written here before about how to choose a motor, the different types of motors, the performance differences between motors, etc. But today I want to show you what makes our motors different from other hub motors. Today, harry is replacing the axle on a customer’s direct-drive motor. The bike was crashed and the…
I am a fan of as little components as possible. The less parts and pieces, the less chance of failure. That’s just my opinion. I do not offer pedal sensor components on my DIY kits but I am open to learning what people think / want.
The industry is benefiting from improved batteries as suppliers over the years developed technology for laptops, smartphones and electric cars. In 2004, lithium ion battery prices fell low enough to be used on electric bikes, spurring European sales, according to Edward Benjamin, senior managing director at eCycleElectric Consulting.

Motor: We have a blog post showing some motor differences: https://www.ebikekit.com/blogs/news/its-whats-inside-your-motor-that-counts Cabling is probably the #1 issue when something goes wrong. Good connectors, good cables, and good assembly (bike shop!) are crucial Strain reliefs on all cable joints! Where you have a junction box or a connector, the stress is concentrated over a small area near this stiff spot on the cable. This can cause small breaks on the internal…

Kvaern is launching the bike and solar power pack on Indiegogo later this week, and customers around the world will be able to buy the bike and the power pack together or separately. Electric bikes offer the chance for those with low lung capacity (asthma sufferers, for example), or a reduced fitness level to get out and enjoy the countryside. Even those who are moderately fit can appreciate some assistance when going up hills.
Now I will dig through some examples of state motor vehicle codes, to give an example of how to find and possibly understand the statutes, short of hiring a lawyer. In the examples, I give only my personal opinion of what the statutes mean.
I bought an OutlawSS which tops out at 28mph. I tried the “discreet” route as stated above but because of the blood-red color and design of the bike I attracted too much attention. It didn’t matter that I was keeping my (alongside of the road) speed at 15mph, people (probably cycling enthusiasts or just haters) jammed on the brakes to check out wtf I was riding. One passenger (some teenager) even had his smartphone out and was either snapping pictures or getting video. Long story short, the officer that pulled me over said “no” to the bike and advised me to get an off-road sticker from the DNR and I’d be fine on ATV trails. He also said there have been numerous reports of “The guy on the illegal E-bike”. I was polite and got off with a warning. Haters gonna hate I guess.
I bought a torque sensing pedelec just over a year ago and I find this system very intuitive. The harder you pedal the more (and proportional) assist you get. Good for accelerating away in traffic and you don’t have to do anything other than pedal. It is analogous to the power steering on a car but in this case the assist power is on the pedals.

Photo: This typical electric bicycle, a Sanyo Eneloop (now discontinued), had a range of about 30–55 km (17–35 miles) and a top speed of around 24 km/h (15 mph). Note the 250-watt hub motor on the front wheel and the 5.7Ah lithium-ion battery pack (black, marked “Sanyo,” just in front of the back wheel). The power system is easily capable of 28 mph (Class 3) top-end speed yet retains great hill climbing capability. Finally electric bikes can have enough performance to be true car replacement vehicles.
Not all e-bikes take the form of conventional push-bikes with an incorporated motor, such as the Cytronex bicycles which use a small battery disguised as a water bottle. Some are designed to take the appearance of low capacity motorcycles, but smaller in size and consisting of an electric motor rather than a petrol engine. For example, the Sakura e-bike incorporates a 200 W motor found on standard e-bikes, but also includes plastic cladding, front and rear lights, and a speedometer. It is styled as a modern moped, and is often mistaken for one.
