E-bikes are great alternatives to traditional bicycles. Many people even prefer these bikes to cars. They can move at very high speeds, and cyclists don’t have to struggle a lot to accelerate; the bicycle can speed up with minimal effort.
The Jetson Adventure was a very pleasant surprise because we really didn’t know what to expect. Instead, we found a light and fun mountain bike and had no problem flinging into corners with ease. The one caveat is that its battery is not removable, at least, not easily. It can be removed from the front light but would take some time to do so. It sports 21 gears, and although we would like to go faster, it is meant to climb hills. Overall, it’s a fun bike to ride, and one that is lightweight at a fair price.
In response to customer questions about the display, we posted a video detailing the basic setup of the LCD during installation of the kit. You will need to adjust the settings for the motor type, wheel size, and battery voltage in order to match your specific kit. Detailed instructions are available in the E-BikeKit manual, E-TrikeKit manual and LCD Quickstart Guide
Before a return is sent, the customer must have a return authorization number provided by PIM Bicycles. If a customer sends a return without the authorization of PIM a refund will not be issued. Returns without an authorization from PIM are considered abandoned property.
By 1898 a rear-wheel drive electric bicycle, which used a driving belt along the outside edge of the wheel, was patented by Mathew J. Steffens. Also, the 1899 U.S. Patent 627,066 by John Schnepf depicted a rear-wheel friction “roller-wheel” style drive electric bicycle. Schnepf’s invention was later re-examined and expanded in 1969 by G.A. Wood Jr. with his U.S. Patent 3,431,994. Wood’s device used 4 fractional horsepower motors; connected through a series of gears.
There is some more progress, an electric bicycle is not a “motor vehicle”. That means that signs that say “no motor vehicles” do not prohibit electric bicycles. It would help if they defined electric bicycle someplace. And they finally do.
They’re Kind of a Bargain: E-bikes are less expensive than you might think—in fact, you can buy one new for under $1,000. (They vary greatly in technology, design and price, however, so be sure to read reviews and try a few models out in person before you hand over your credit card; it’s important to know what you’re getting—and not getting—for your money.)
At the very least, it should be a mandate that all regulations for electric personal transportation vehicles should have to be clearly stated, in one place that is clearly labeled and easy to understand. That’s a starting point. Electric PTV users shouldn’t have to search all over federal, state & local laws to find out whether or not they are being legal.
The first pedal-assisted bicycles appeared in India in 1993. In 2008, the sales of e-bike sales exceeded moped sales. In recent years, 2-passenger and even 3-passenger (two adults and a child) e-bikes were introduced in India.
Every day we hear about the development of a new environmentally sound technology that will make a difference. Some still on the drawing board. Our electric bike products with their refined design and engineering are available now — Ready to ride! Read on for some inspiration about how electric bikes change our impact on the planet.
Government does have an interest in the matter someone running a stop sign. It does not matter if you are in a truck, car, or are riding a bicycle, you must obey traffic laws. In Texas you are required to use a headlight at night and have a rear reflector. I would change the law to require a rear light if I were in the Legislature.

Once you experience the fully proportional torque sensing pedal assist system, you can’t imagine riding anything else. Our already world-class assist system has been refined to be more intuitive and insanely smooth.
Photo: Zap Electric’s power-assist kit turns a conventional bike into an electric one. There’s a bolt-on DC electric motor (weighing just over 3kg or 7lb) just above the back wheel, behind the police officer’s foot, pressing against the tire and driving it by simple friction. The motor’s powered by a compact lead-acid battery (weighing about 5.5 kg or 12 lb) inside a protective nylon bag. This kit adds quite bit of weight to the bike, but gives extra range and speed when needed. Photo taken in Santa Rosa, California courtesy of US DOE/NREL.
PikeResearch, a for-profit market research firm, released a report in 2010 which included market analysis and forecasts for electric two-wheel vehicles. They concluded that, “The worldwide electric two-wheel vehicle market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 9% through 2016” and that “a lack of a well-defined retail channel hampers faster adoption in North America and Europe.” PikeResearch also forecasted that worldwide sales of e-bikes, e-motorcycles, and e-scooters will reach more than 466 million between 2010 and 2016, and China will continue to dominate the world market, with more than 95% of sales during this period. E-bikes sales are expected to have the largest share with 56% of the market.
“I used to whip around corners on horseback with the wind in my face,” said 27-year-old Marino, who lives in Torrance, California. “It hurt not to have that anymore; not to feel myself riding anything.”
A custom designed electric trike with large plastic cargo bin at the back, three-speed internally geared hub can be shifted at standstill and is more durable than a traditional derailleur. Two mechanical disc brakes provide good stopping power, max speed limited to 7 mph in……
Photo: Could solar power be the future of electric bicycles? The large solar panel mounted over the back wheel of this experimental bike powers an electric motor connected by a chain drive to the back wheel, helping the rider when he doesn’t feel like pedaling. Using clean, green solar power would remove the problem of having to charge electric bikes with electricity generated from fossil fuels—and help to extend their range significantly. Potholes, curbs and other urban obstacles are no problem for mountain bikes, which is why many people choose to commute on the things. It was with this in mind that the Billy was created. It’s a foldable e-bike that looks like a cross between a fatbike, a full-suspension mountain bike, and a BMX.
It’s an unfortunate fact of life that as people get older, their sense of balance diminishes. This means that seniors have a higher than average risk of falling when cycling. They may be less likely to do so, however, if the senior-specific Sofie e-bike reaches production.
